Handling & Storing of Essential Oils

Essential oils are highly volatile substances that evaporate readily and are all inflammable.

h3That’s why Clearly Essentials Limited supplies essential oils in dark glass bottles as heat, air and light can affect them.  So please store your essential oils in a cool dark place with the lid tightly sealed to prevent evaporation.  Remember that once the bottle is opened constantly the oxidation process begins and therefore you will get a reduction of therapeutic properties over time.

It depends on the essential oil but most will deteriorate slowly over a couple of years.  Citrus oils on the other hand should be used within one year.

We highly recommend that you use your essential oils within one year.

Essential oils should only be used if you have obtained good profiles with information on safety precautions.  Also please ensure that you have adequate ventilation when working with oils.

Here are a couple of safety guidelines;

  • Store out of the reach of children
  • Essential oils should never be taken orally
  • Avoid using oils in or around the eye area
  • Certain essential oils can cause skin irritation especially if they are applied directly to the skin undiluted
  • Citrus oils are phototoxic so avoid the sun
  • Some oils can cause skin sensitivity so try a patch test and vary the oils you use on a regular basis
  • Do not use essential oils during the first trimester of your pregnancy
  • If you have any medical condition please consult your doctor first before using an essential oil.
